Bratislava (11-13 October, 2016): The DEA-Days brought new growth opportunities to Slovakia

On the 12th and 13th October, the Diplomatic, Economic and Academic Days organised by CIDIC (International Circle for Diplomats and Consuls) took place in Bratislava, within the frame of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Previously, the other two DEA events were hosted by the two former countries at the lead of the CEU: Luxembourg (2/2015), and the Netherlands (1/2016). FEDRA, as CIDIC’s partner on the European regional side, participated in the event.

The focus during the first of the two DEA-Days was on economic and diplomatic issues. The day started with a meeting with the managers of SARIO (the Agency for Regional Development in Slovakia), and the officials representing the Chamber of Commerce, followed by other business gatherings in which Belgian and Slovak MEPs, and company managers took part. For FEDRA these B2B sessions represented the chance to get the interest of, and establish contact with several Slovak entrepreneurs, which opened the way for future collaborations. A visit to the factory where the aeromobile is produced, the European CIDIC Award ceremony in the Castle of Bratislava, and the diplomatic reception organised by the Belgian ambassador in Slovakia, have completed the DEA-Days agenda for the 12th of October.

The second day of the event was dedicated to the academic sector and it included a meeting with the authorities of the Comenius University of Bratislava on the topic of research and innovation, and its impact on the development of the country. On this day FEDRA met the representatives of UNICA, the Network of the Universities of the European Capitals Cities, and so it has the chance to discuss about issues regarding the academic sector in Slovakia and share its experience in this field. The discussion paved the way for an action plan in order to help the Slovak academic institutions and organisations gain access to the EU development schemes.

The CIDIC DEA-Days represented the perfect context for the EU and Slovak organisations, institutions and individuals to find out about potential development opportunities, and the latest practices in different sectors of activity around the EU. Since FEDRA supports the interconnection of the EU regions, and it promotes the diversification of practices in different sectors of activity, the organisation will continue as CIDIC’s partner for the next event of this sort that will be held in Malta during the spring of 2017.
