Meet the YRA of the Month: Salvatore Celi

Written by

Salvatore Celi is 25 years old from Palmi and is the YRA of Calabria (Italy).

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Administration and is currently attending a High-Formation class in Euro-project Management for Public Administrations. He is also working with Rende City Hall on an European Project Work about Local Public Transport.

His hobbies include Politics, Soccer and... PlayStation!

When asked about his life philosophy he answered:

"My life philosophy is very simple: to believe in ourselves. I think nothing is impossible if we believe in ourselves. No excuses. We have to choose one or more aims in our life, to focus on our goals, by implementing actions, and be determined and resolute in order to reach them."

Salvatore's values are: "those of a “typical Calabrian”: tradition, pride, loyalty, honesty and, last but not least, family, which is the most important thing for us. Family supports us in everything and is our first partner or first “business angel. My keys of success are included in the acronym DACKS: Determination, Ambition, Competitiveness, Knowledge and Studies."

As all YRAs, Salvatore is proud of his region: "I would like not to seem arrogant or conceited, but I am sure that Calabria is one of the most beautiful regions in the world. It is not by chance that few days ago, “The New York Times” – Travel section, included Calabria in the “52 places to go in 2017”: the only region in Italy!

Two seas (the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea), different mountains (the Pollino Range, the Sila Upland, the Aspromonte Range), Magna Græcia area (Greek), Roman history and I can continue! We only need more investments in public and private sectors, because there is a lack of work and a high young unemployment rate despite the number of graduates. I think that the regional level is important for the European Union because, in my vison of EU in next 50 years, I see only different regions “Unity in diversity”."
